CMAI is the oldest and the most
representative Association of the Garment Industry in
India. With a
membership of over 2,500 manufacturers and 15,000 retailers, CMAI
represents
a wide cross section of Manufacturers, Exporters and Retailers.
The
Association has branches in Pune/Solapur in Western Maharashtra and in
Bangalore in
Karnataka.
Established 40 years ago, The Clothing Manufacturers' Association of India (CMAI),
has
been acting as a catalyst of change, collaborating with the Government in matters of
policy that impacts the future of the Apparel Industry. It has
been making
representations in matters of Excise, Sales Tax, Octroi, Entry
Tax, etc. for the domestic
sector and in matters relating to export policy,
procedures, export quotas, etc. for the
export sector.
The CMAI also acts as
a guide for its members on meeting various
Government regulations.CMAI was primarily responsible for the setting up of the Apparel
Export Promotion Council
(AEPC) in Mumbai, Delhi, Madras, Bangalore and Kolkata way
back in 1978 for regulating
the promotion of Exports of Readymade Garments
from India.
CMAI organises National Garment Fair every year. This Fair has proved to be
the most
important trade event for the garment industry. Being the largest
conglomeration of
Retailers and Manufacturers, it serves as a single
sourcing destination thereby infusing
efficiency of time and cost into the
supply chain.
CMAI also recognises excellence in the export and national apparel industry
by
honouring its members with Apex Awards – National Awards for Excellence
in Apparel.
It also pays tributes to those in the industry who have
contributed towards its welfare by
conferring Life Time Achievement Awards. |
