NEWS HIGHLIGHTS/DESIGN DAZZLERS NOVEMBER'06

Sprawling villa in Dubai, home to Manish Malhotra store

Manish Malhotra recently launched his first store in the glamorous city of Dubai. Superstars Kareena Kapoor and Urmila Matondkar attended the launch and lent full support to friend and design guru Manish Malhotra as Dubai’s glitterati oohed and aahed at the beauty and design element of the spacious villa that is now home to the Manish Malhotra flagship store. The villa, white in all in splendor is spread spaciously over two levels and also boasts of an outer area with a sea blue swimming pool surrounded by a lavishly manicured lawn. The inner sanctum of the villa, done up in trademark Manish Malhotra coral blue, white and glass showcases the designers aesthetic sense in all areas of design. Says Manish on the occasion of the store opening, “The store will cater to a diverse audience, particularly the fashion conscious Arab community who can choose from a range of specially designed shells, abhayas and jalabiyas. My latest diffusion collection that is modern, minimalist and grand will also appeal to Dubai’s cosmopolitan environment.”

Monsoon Revelry at “Mogra”

Mogra, the fashion store at Quorum Phoenix Mills, Mumbai presents its new Collections for the forthcoming festive season. Mogra (started by Gayatri Ruia in July 2004) houses collections from several designers and labels, both known as well as upcoming.

This Monsoon, designers presenting their creations in high prêt and diffusion wear at Mogra include: Meghna K. Umaima Khorakiwala and Babita Malkani while Jewellery by Ameesha Khanna and Accessories by Alisha & Twisha Chinai (of “Bea”) will also make their dazzling debut at “Mogra”. Another important highlight is the announcement of Mogra’s support to ‘Anando”, a charitable initiative that works with disadvantaged children.

Chic Statement by Aza

Aza, South Mumbai’s sought after fashion destination showcased a preview of the monsoon collection by one of Bollywood’s favourite designers and trendsetters Rocky S.

Rocky S Noir will now retail from Aza at Altamount Road, Mumbai. The new collection at Aza under his prêt label Rocky S Noir is meant for the fashion conscious urbanite who loves the whole “feel” of being innocently beautiful and yet has a contrastingly sexy look. Aza showcased the Rocky S Noir new collection, a striking presentation of layered georgette and chiffon skirts teamed with embellished feminine tops that range from halters to togas to empire line baby doll blouses. Naughty shorts, hot pants, now in vogue Bermudas, and Rocky’s signature denim jeans with large doses of sequined flowers and even an embroidered Lolita on them are also a part of the collection. Inspired by the look of the 40s and 70s the colours favoured are neutrals with deep pastels like pink, champagne, greens with large doses of vibrant red and black. Embellished with crystals and pearls there is a lavish use of lace for layering with many of the garments topped with three dimensional flowers.

Eternal Energy

A timeless collection with clean, spare, lines, breaking away from colour.... soothing refreshing, gentle and sensitive, expressed only in shades of natural whites set off against deep black.... a season of stark contrasts. The dark, night shy hit up with iridescence, providing a perfect foil for the pristine elegance of soft, charming neutrals, two sides of natures walking in balance. The energy flow expresses itself in garments which allow free movement in silhouettes like loose, high waist trousers, tunics, shorts, with interesting share and colour details, tulip cuts, yoked a - line skirts, layered saris in interesting drapes, cinched jackets and much more.... Especially interesting is a beautiful pair of ivory layered chiffon and georgette samurai pants, which when wrapped around flow with Zen energy. The romantic soul of the 80’s is brought back in fabrics like linen, georgettes, chiffons and special blend of silk linen.
