The Clothing Manufacturers Association of India (CMAI) is the oldest and the most representative Association of the Apparel Industry in India. With a Membership of over 20,000 Manufacturers and Retailers, CMAI represents a wide cross section of Manufacturers, Exporters and Retailers. The Association has branches in Pune / Bangalore / New Delhi.

Established over 40 years ago, The Clothing Manufacturers Association of India (CMAI), has been acting as a catalyst of change, collaborating with the Government in matters of policy that impacts the future of the Apparel Industry. It has been making representations in matters of Sales Tax, Octroi, Entry Tax, VAT etc. for the Domestic Sector and in matters relating to Export Policy, procedures etc. for the Export Sector. The CMAI also acts as a Guide for its Members on meeting various Government Regulations.

CMAI has primarily responsible for the setting up of the Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC) in Mumbai, Delhi, Madras, Bangalore and Kolkata way back in 1978 for regulating the promotion of Exports of Readymade Garments from India.

CMAI organises National Garment Fair & Regional Garment Fairs every year. These Fairs have proved to be the most important Trade Event for the Apparel Industry. Being the largest conglomeration of Retailers and Manufacturers, it serves as a single sourcing destination thereby infusing efficiency of time and cost into the supply chain.

CMAI runs a well equipped Testing Laboratory to test the Physical and Chemical characteristics of Yarn, Fabrics and Garments. The services of the Laboratory are open to Members as well as Non-Members.

CMAI has been appointed by the Govt. of India to issue Certificate of Origin (Non-Preferential) to Exporters.

CMAI runs its own in-house Magazine ‘Apparel-The Clothiers Digest’ this is a monthly publication which contains inter-alia articles of topics of current interest and in-depth analysis of the Apparel industry.

CMAI also recognises Excellence in the Export and National Apparel Industry by honouring its Members with Apex Awards - National Awards for Excellence in Apparel. It also pays tributes to those in the Industry who have contributed towards its welfare by conferring ‘Life Time Achievement Awards’.
